"They Were, Those People, a Kind of Solution" is a project that delves into the historical and contemporary aspects of the Gastarbeiter tradition, focusing on migration challenges and labor transformations. This initiative explores the evolution of economic migration strategies, emphasizing integration and differential inclusion priorities. By examining the intersections of labor, ideology, and migration in Europe, with a spotlight on the knowledge economy and gender dynamics in labor, the project aims to uncover emancipatory potentials of the present.

Through encounters with different generations of labor migrants, the project connects past and present to envision a new future. Join the upcoming public event, "They'll Never Walk Alone: Remembering Gastarbeiters in the Neoliberal Age Conference," on October 6-7, 2017, in Vienna, featuring a diverse array of panels, discussions, screenings, and performances. Co-funded by the Creative Europe programme and supported by various entities, this project seeks to foster dialogue and understanding around the complexities of migration and labor in European societies.

Explore the hidden genealogy of today's crises and engage in a journey towards a more inclusive and equitable future with "They Were, Those People, a Kind of Solution. "
