Eir Barnevern

Eir Barnevern is a Norwegian residential and treatment provider for young people, drawing on its founders’ extensive experience in institutional care and work with youth. The organisation aims to deliver care in which young people and professional expertise remain central, and describes its approach through three guiding values: empathy, integrity and respect. Its work is grounded in humanistic and democratic principles, with a positive view of people and an emphasis on participation, engagement, respect and tolerance.

Eir provides a structured, supportive living environment for young people who may be facing complex challenges. Rather than viewing behaviours such as substance use, self-harm, running away, withdrawal from care, criminality or violence simply as problems, the organisation understands them as possible survival strategies. Its approach highlights warmth, predictable boundaries, care, relationships, interaction, learning and alternative coping strategies. Eir seeks to help young people and their families build hope, confidence and practical knowledge, and to recognise that effort and development can make a difference.
