About EISA
EISA, the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa, is a reputable not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting credible elections and sustainable democracies across the African continent. With its headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, EISA operates with field offices in various locations. Initially focused on supporting democratic transition and free and fair elections in post-Apartheid South Africa, EISA has expanded its programmatic scope to include activities related to democratic governance and good governance support throughout Africa.
EISA's work is divided into two main areas: elections and good governance. The organization supports regional, sub-regional, and national stakeholders in fostering inclusive, peaceful, and credible elections through election assessment and assistance initiatives. Additionally, EISA strives to strengthen governance institutions by providing support to political parties, parliaments, civil society, and other relevant government institutions.
This is achieved through applied research, capacity building, training, and academic research. With a commitment to sustainability, EISA collaborates with local partners, improves in-country capacities, and provides technical and implementation support to democracy-supporting institutions. Through its partnerships and technical assistance, EISA plays a key role in establishing electoral standards and benchmarks in Africa
