Eesti Keele Instituut, also known as the Institute of the Estonian Language, is a state research and development institution dedicated to preserving the Estonian language throughout history. Our main focus is on studying contemporary Estonian language, the history of the language, Estonian dialects, and Finno-Ugric cognate languages. We fulfill several national tasks, including the compilation of important Estonian language dictionaries, providing public free language advice (including name and terminology advice), coordinating national terminological work, offering services for people with special needs (such as speech technology and sign language dictionaries), providing e-services for language learners (including specialized dictionaries for different proficiency levels), collecting and developing language archives, and developing language technology.
