ElAraj Excavation

Elaraj is an innovative archaeological initiative focused on uncovering the historical and biblical roots of the region surrounding the Sea of Galilee. Spearheaded by a collaborative team from Kinneret College and Nyack College, the El Araj Excavation Project aims to identify the true location of Bethsaida, the hometown of apostles Peter and Andrew. Over recent seasons, participants have explored remarkable discoveries, including a large Greek inscription and an ancient church believed to be dedicated to the apostles.

Elaraj serves not only as a archaeological site but also as a vibrant platform for educational engagements, allowing volunteers from around the globe to participate in the excavation process. The project emphasizes the importance of historical context in understanding biblical narratives and offers a unique opportunity for community involvement in archaeology. With a commitment to transparency and scholarly collaboration, Elaraj continues to uncover insights that illuminate the lives and times of early Christians
