The Association of Foresters and Forest Owners (SLiWL) is a Polish nonprofit organization established in 2013 to represent foresters and the country’s nearly three million private forest owners. It focuses on private forests, which cover 1.78 million hectares, or 19.3% of Poland’s forest area. The association brings stakeholders together, comments on proposed legislation in the Sejm and Senate, and developed a proposal for Forest Chambers: a form of self-government intended to represent private forest owners and support forest management.
SLiWL also organizes the “Private Forests in Poland” conference series and awards the Kazimierz Szeptycki Prize to people and institutions recognized for their contributions to private forests. Its education and advisory work includes training, the Institute of Environmental Debates, expert opinions, assessments, forest valuation, and assistance with simplified forest management plans. Through its events, advocacy, and professional services, SLiWL works to strengthen the voice and capabilities of Poland’s private forest sector. The association invites people to join or support its work through donations and membership contributions.
