About Elbe-pilot
Elbe-Pilot is a renowned brand consisting of 280 independent pilots from the Elbe Pilot Fraternity, one of the oldest and largest pilot associations worldwide. Our expertise lies in ensuring safe navigation along the Elbe, one of the busiest waterways on Earth, between the German Bight and the Port of Hamburg, 365 days a year. With three fully-operational pilot stations in Hamburg, Brunsbüttel, and Cuxhaven, and our pilot vessel, Elbe, stationed at the Elbe Lightship in the German Bight, we are always where the maritime traffic needs us.
Our experienced pilots provide guidance, advice, and seamless navigation in all weather conditions, from the Unterelbe and the German Bight to the Port of Cuxhaven and other ports. We also offer boarding services in the departing port of Hamburg-bound ships to coordinate their entry into the Elbe without delays. On board, we act as consultants to the captain and crew, ensuring smooth traffic flow and precise maneuvering, even in tight spaces.
Our Elbe pilots are highly skilled seafarers with the highest nautical license and specialized training. Through regular simulations and ongoing training, we keep our knowledge up-to-date for any scenario that may arise on board a vessel. For ships bound to Hamburg, we hand over the navigation responsibility to the Hamburg Port Pilots at our pilot station in Hamburg-Teufelsbrück.
For outbound ships, we take over at Teufelsbrück and accompany them to the German Bight or the Kiel Canal, depending on their destination. When navigating the Kiel Canal, we hand over the ships to the Fraternity of North Sea and Baltic Sea Canal Pilots before Brunsbüttel. Ships entering from the Kiel Canal are guided by us from the Brunsbüttel lock gates.
