About Election Law Program
Election Law Navigator is a nonpartisan online resource designed to bring clarity and context to state election law. The project was formulated by the Election Law Program, a joint venture of William & Mary Law School and the National Center for State Courts, in response to concerns surrounding the growth of election litigation. Its freely accessible resources help judges, legal professionals, and members of the public better understand how law and elections intersect.
Visitors can explore election-law information by jurisdiction, including federal content and material for U.S. states and territories. The site also offers topic-based browsing, timelines, search tools, and an Election Law Manual to support research and understanding. These features bring relevant information together in an organized format for people seeking to navigate election-law issues.
The project was developed with generous funding from the Democracy Fund, Hewlett Foundation, Election Trust Initiative, and Rockefeller Brothers Fund. Election Law Navigator also provides help, contact information, terms of use, and links to additional resources, supporting access to its materials and assistance for users.
