About An Coimisiún Toghcháin
An Coimisiún Toghcháin, Ireland's independent electoral commission, is proud to announce the publication of our Constituency Review 2023. As part of our commitment to maintaining fair and effective electoral processes, we conduct a comprehensive review of Ireland's Dáil and European Parliament constituencies after every census. The review ensures that constituencies are properly composed and boundaries reflect population distribution.
Our Constitution mandates that there should be an average of one TD (Teachta Dála) to represent every 20,000-30,000 people, and our electoral laws lay out additional criteria for the review process. We take into account geographical, population density, and physical features to create constituencies that are fair and representative.
