The Hellenic Polar Zones Society, is a scientific society that began operating in 2012 under the initiative of Mr. Stathis Nirikos, retired Flag Officer of the Hellenic Navy, Economist & International law Expert. The Society was officially recognized with the decision No. 177/7-4-14 of the County Court of Athens. Our members are scientists affiliated in a variety of scientific fields such as Μedicine (among them twο physician-researchers in the scientific station “Concordia” of the European Union in Antarctica), Ηydrographers, Geologists, Biologists, armed forces Officers in service or retired, Merchant Marine officers, Explorers – mountaineers, who have travelled at polar regions, artists, economists, journalists etc. Our purpose is the study of Polar Zones in every respect and the spread of interests of our country, to them, something that shows that in the future will have a great significance.

About Hellenic Polar Zones Society

The Hellenic Polar Zones Society (H. P. Z.

S. ) is a scientific society established in 2012 by Mr. Stathis Nirikos, a retired Flag Officer of the Hellenic Navy.

Officially recognized by the County Court of Athens, our members include scientists from various fields such as Medicine, Hydrography, Geology, Biology, and more. Our mission is to promote Greece's presence in the Polar Zones by conducting research, environmental observations, and data collection on animal life. Collaborating with national and international organizations, we work towards the protection of Polar Zones.

We are dedicated to educating children about Polar Zone issues and representing our nation at international forums. Our activities also include an educational program for students, pending implementation due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Board of Directors, led by President Rear Admiral SYMEON KONSTANTINIDIS HN, is committed to advancing our vision and fostering a deeper understanding of the Polar Zones
