Bokhandlerforeningen is the trade association representing bookstores across Norway. It works to protect its members’ interests and strengthen literature and the role of books in society. The organization engages with issues affecting the book trade, including book legislation and the Book Agreement, and publishes commentary, consultation responses, reports, and information about the importance of bookstores. It also shares industry data, such as bookstore numbers, sales statistics, turnover, purchasing figures, and reader survey findings.

Bokhandlerforeningen supports professional development through the Book Industry Vocational School and promotes activity across the sector, including the annual Mammut sale. Its Boklista service presents book lists and sales rankings across categories such as adult fiction, general literature, children’s and young adult books, and e-books. The association also runs or supports awards and grants, including the Booksellers’ Prize, the Booksellers’ Authors’ Grants, the Bjørnson Scholarship, and the Riverton Prize. Through these initiatives, it serves as a resource and advocate for Norway’s bookstores, authors, and wider literary community.
