The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a UK charity helping young people aged 8 to 24 build confidence and look forward to life during and after cancer. Recognising that treatment can affect mental wellbeing and make returning to “normal” difficult, the Trust offers free sailing and outdoor experiences that connect young people with others who understand what they have been through.
Its core programme includes four-day sailing trips departing from Cowes on the Isle of Wight and Largs on Scotland’s west coast. Young people treated for cancer anywhere in the UK can apply, and those who have sailed with the Trust can return for further trips and outdoor adventures. The charity also provides year-round support, signposting and online mental wellbeing resources, alongside activities for siblings.
The Trust’s work is supported through donations, fundraising, events, corporate partnerships, philanthropy, grants and volunteering. Since 2003, it has supported thousands of young people, helping them feel more accepted, independent and optimistic.
