Ellerslie AFC is a well-established football brand with a rich history dating back to the founding of the Auckland Football Association in 1887. After a period of recess, the club was reformed in 1953 and has since grown into one of the largest clubs in the AFF controlled region, boasting approximately 115 teams from midget to senior levels. The club's success includes multiple local competition wins and reaching the last sixteen of the prestigious Chatham Cup four times since 1978.

The club relies heavily on the dedication and voluntary work of its members, who contribute to coaching, administration, team management, and other essential tasks. To deliver the quality footballing experience demanded by its members, Ellerslie AFC has expanded its offerings to include paid administration and coaching roles.

With a recently adopted modern constitution, the club operates under two divisions: Senior and Junior/Youth. A strategic plan is in place to improve structures, systems, and programs, creating clearly defined pathways for emerging players and coaches. The club is also committed to developing new facilities to further enhance the player experience.
