Elm Branch Cemetery

Elm Branch Cemetery Association cares for Elm Branch Cemetery, a historic burial ground near Bardwell, Texas, also known over time as Matlock, Bethany, and Bardwell Cemetery. Its history reflects the early communities and churches of the area: the oldest known marked grave dates to 1877, and the grounds are recognized as a Texas Historical Cemetery. The cemetery welcomes visitors daily during daylight hours, with access from FM 984, west of Krajca Road and North Anthony Road.

The association offers cemetery lots for purchase, priced at $1,500 for a single lot and $3,000 for a double lot; prospective buyers can contact the association to ask about availability and purchasing. Contributions help support the cemetery and may be mailed to the association in Bardwell, with donors asked to include the names of ancestors buried there. Visitors are asked to respect the sacred grounds and observe safety guidance, including restrictions on moving monuments and requirements that children under 18 be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
