El Retiro de las Letras is an independent bookshop in Madrid’s Niño Jesús neighborhood, in the heart of the Retiro district. Its aim is to bring readers and books together in a welcoming space where everyone belongs. The shop offers a broad catalogue organized by subject, including Spanish and Latin American fiction, translated literature, children’s and young adult books, poetry, art and photography, essays, history, crime fiction, comics, theatre, and more.
Customers can browse and purchase books online, check availability for delivery, and request special orders. A distinctive part of its catalogue is Fondo de América, featuring works connected with Latin American literature and culture. The selection includes anthologies of Colombian women’s writing across genres such as poetry, fiction, testimony, journalism, theatre, and criticism, alongside books for younger readers.
Beyond bookselling, El Retiro de las Letras hosts activities such as reading clubs and shares news about events and literary recommendations
