With a focus on environmental sustainability, eLTER offers excellent science and state-of-the-art research infrastructure to address the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and unsustainable resource use. Through collaborative efforts and transdisciplinary expertise, eLTER catalyzes scientific discovery and develops evidence-based solutions. Their mission is to facilitate high-impact research across Europe by providing access to over 500 well-instrumented sites and harmonized data.

They combine a socio-ecological approach with stakeholder knowledge, resulting in novel data services and products accessible to users at various scales. With a network of 26 national site networks and 50 LTSER platforms, eLTER brings together diverse ecosystems, from terrestrial to coastal, enabling holistic research and long-term monitoring. eLTER is building the future of research infrastructure with their pan-European eLTER RI, which responds to emerging environmental challenges.

They are currently engaged in several projects, including eLTER PPP, eLTER PLUS, and the eLTER Preparatory Phase Project, aimed at ensuring the legal, financial, and technical maturity of the research infrastructure. Their service portfolio includes tools like the Dynamic Ecological Information System (DEIMS), the eLTER Information System, the Data Integration Portal, and a controlled vocabulary for keyword tagging and discovery.
