El Vitor is the traditional Feast of Fire held each 27 September in Mayorga de Campos, Spain. Recognised as a Festival of National Tourist Interest, it commemorates the arrival of a relic of Saint Turibius of Mogrovejo, a native of Mayorga, in 1752. The celebration’s name comes from the decorated standard, or Vitor, carried in the procession.
The event begins at 10 p.m. at the Chapel of Saint Turibius. Participants follow the standard through the town, carrying burning leather wineskins traditionally made from goat hides and coated with tar. The Town Hall has produced replica wineskins since 2000 to help preserve the custom amid a shortage of traditional ones. The procession passes through central streets and reaches Plaza de España around midnight, where fireworks and an ode to the saint form part of the celebration. It returns to the chapel in the early morning, concluding with songs. The site presents the feast’s history, traditions, procession route, hymn, photographs, and information about Saint Turibius.
