Emeralds are Forever

Emeralds Are Forever Inc. is a Maryland-based 501(c)(3) public charity established in memory of Emerald A. Butcher, a scholar, mother, and advocate for education.

The organization honors her legacy by supporting high-achieving young people who have experienced the loss of a parent, helping them pursue higher education with strength and purpose. Its work includes the Emerald A. Butcher Memorial Scholarship, educational resources, mentorship, and community support.

Through these services, Emeralds Are Forever seeks to expand opportunity, encourage resilience, and help students reach their potential as future leaders. The organization’s 2026 scholarship recipients include Yari Butcher, Yasmein Butcher, and Serene Sarpong, who are continuing their studies at American University, North Carolina A&T State University, and UCLA. Based in Baltimore, the nonprofit also brings its community together through an annual celebration and fundraiser honoring Emerald’s life.

Proceeds support the memorial scholarship and help provide resources for students facing adversity. Rooted in compassion, equity, and educational advancement, Emeralds Are Forever turns remembrance into meaningful investment in students and the next generation
