Environmental Monitoring Group

The Environmental Monitoring Group (EMG) is a South African organization working to address the water and environmental crisis facing the nation. Through their water testing initiative, EMG is partnering with various communities and organizations to assess the quality of water sources across the country. This citizen science-based approach aims to highlight the extent of poor water quality and the lack of access to safe clean water, emphasizing the physical, psychological, and environmental impacts on communities.

The organization is focusing on areas heavily impacted by the water crisis, such as Goedverwacht, Piketberg, Kuils River Catchment, Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu Natal, and Limpopo. Through this initiative, EMG seeks to prevent another human rights crisis by promoting accountability and solutions for the areas affected by the water crisis.

EMG invites citizens to join them and their members at various water testing locations to assess water quality. With the support of local contact persons and national contacts, EMG, alongside Water Community Action Network (WaterCAN), aims to collect, analyze, and address the results of the Water Testing Week.
