EHSIMFFA, the Emperor Haile Selassie I Memorial Foundation’s Friends in America, is a Virginia-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2020. The organization supports the Emperor Haile Selassie I Memorial Foundation in Ethiopia, carrying forward the Emperor’s belief that education can strengthen a nation. Its central work is funding scholarships for economically disadvantaged university students across Ethiopia, helping talented young people remain enrolled and complete their studies.
Scholarship support addresses essential needs, including food, clothing, hygiene supplies, and transportation—not tuition alone. In 2025–26, the program supported 200 scholars at 20 universities and colleges, with assistance intended to continue for four to five years through graduation. By helping students avoid dropping out, EHSIMFFA aims to expand access to higher education and enable graduates to contribute to Ethiopia’s development.
The organization is guided by a volunteer board and community, working alongside its partner foundation in Ethiopia. Supporters can make tax-deductible donations, contribute toward a student’s scholarship, explore the foundation’s work and the Emperor’s legacy, or attend the annual gala.
