Empire Wind is a pioneering offshore wind energy project aimed at transforming New York's renewable energy landscape. Located 15-30 miles south of Long Island, the project spans 80,000 acres and aims to install over 130 wind turbines that will generate 2.1 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy, capable of powering up to 1 million homes. Developed by Equinor in partnership with BP, Empire Wind prioritizes community engagement and environmental sustainability, actively investing in local initiatives and providing small community grants.

The project encompasses a commitment to marine mammal protection and collaboration with local communities, including workforce development programs designed to promote education and training in the offshore wind industry. To facilitate its mission, Empire Wind has established a hub at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, which will serve as the central operation center for construction and maintenance activities. As part of its vision, Empire Wind not only contributes to renewable energy generation but also supports the growth of New York’s green economy.
