About EMSC
The EMSC (European Mediterranean Seismological Centre) is an international, non-governmental, non-profit association committed to collecting and sharing earthquake information and advancing seismological research. Established in 1975 based on the recommendation of the European Seismological Commission (ESC), the EMSC has been operating since 1976 at the Institut de physique du globe de Strasbourg (IPGS). Its official statutes were established in 1983.
The EMSC provides real-time earthquake information for seismic events with a magnitude larger than 5 in the European Mediterranean area and larger than 7 in the rest of the world. It utilizes seismic data contributed by seismological institutes globally, as well as crowdsourced data from eyewitnesses, to rapidly collect and disseminate earthquake parameters. The EMSC functions as the European infrastructure for seismological parameters and products within EPOS and is a member of the EPOS Seismology Consortium.
It plays a vital role in fostering scientific cooperation among European seismological data contributors and maintaining a comprehensive seismological database
