About Encycloge
The Encyclopédie de Genève is a historical reference project dedicated to the city and canton of Geneva and their development over approximately 2,000 years. Established by the Association de l’Encyclopédie de Genève, which became a foundation in 1997, the project makes the work of its original print edition freely available online. Visitors can consult more than 3,000 pages organized across ten thematic volumes, covering Geneva’s natural setting and countryside, economic life, political and judicial institutions, religions, education and research, industry and crafts, international role, daily life, and arts and entertainment.
An eleventh volume provides a general index and chronology. The collection also includes bibliographies to support further study. The foundation’s website serves researchers, students, and anyone interested in Geneva’s history, offering access to content originally published between 1982 and 1996.
The complete 11-volume print collection remains available through the foundation and the Geneva State Archives. The site notes that the texts have not been updated and that images from the original editions were omitted where rights required
