Energising Development

EnDev, or Energising Development, is a strategic partnership of donors and partners working to expand access to modern energy services. Coordinated by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the partnership supports local markets and aims to make energy products and services affordable and accessible, particularly for people living in poverty. EnDev works in more than 20 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America, where energy access needs are greatest.

Its work covers clean cooking, rural electrification, productive use of energy, humanitarian energy, climate, gender, learning and innovation, and efforts to ensure no one is left behind. EnDev supports solutions such as improved cookstoves, renewable electricity, and energy access for schools, health centres and businesses. Its approaches include demand-side subsidies and results-based financing, alongside training and market development.

EnDev’s stated vision is universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy by 2030. The partnership reports reaching 36.7 million people with modern energy services and helping micro, small and medium-sized enterprises grow through productive energy use.
