ENERAREA is the Regional Energy and Environment Agency of the Interior, established in 2001 at the initiative of the Association of Municipalities of Cova da Beira. The agency works to improve energy efficiency through the rational use and conservation of energy, while encouraging better use of local energy resources across Beira Interior. Its work spans energy, renewable energy and environmental action, supporting municipalities, public institutions and communities in the transition toward more sustainable practices.

ENERAREA develops and supports projects addressing practical regional needs, including municipal and social-sector building upgrades, LED lighting, heat-pump systems, forest biomass management and renewable energy use in the water cycle. It also provides training and energy-saving guidance for public entities and social institutions, and runs educational initiatives that help children build responsible energy habits. The agency shares information through publications, events, conferences and workshops, including ENERTECH, a fair focused on energy technologies. Through these activities, ENERAREA promotes efficiency, climate action and the sustainable development of the Interior.
