About Energiestadt
The Trägerverein Energiestadt is a pioneering competence center for local energy and climate policy in Switzerland, active for over 30 years. This unique association unites Swiss municipalities, from large urban areas to small mountain villages, all committed to tackling energy and climate challenges through local, ongoing efforts. Energiestadt promotes sustainable energy practices and climate protection, bestowing the Energiestadt label to municipalities that prioritize efficient energy use, renewable resources, and eco-friendly mobility. Participating communities benefit from comprehensive tools and services that guide them toward effective energy and climate strategies.
The association showcases successful projects, such as a mobile pellet heating system in Zurich and a 100% renewable heating network in Lausanne, exemplifying how municipalities can set high energy standards. Energiestädte play a vital role in fostering a sustainable future, engaging in intelligent resource management, and adhering to rigorous environmental standards. With 475 Energiestädte in Switzerland, the movement has transcended borders, adopting its philosophy in over 1,400 cities across eleven countries through the European Energy Award program.
