About Energy Keepers Inc
Energy Keepers, Inc., also known as EKI, is a tribally owned corporation of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. Their main goal is to manage the Se̓liš Ksanka Ql̓ispe̓ Hydroelectric Project on the Flathead Indian Reservation. This project consists of a three-unit hydroelectric plant that has the capacity to generate 194 megawatts of electricity.
The annual generation of the plant is around 1,100,000 mega watt-hours, which is enough to power 100,000 to 110,000 homes every year. In 2015, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes will become the first tribes in the nation to own and operate a major hydropower facility when they acquire the dam. By owning and operating the Se̓liš Ksanka Ql̓ispe̓ Project, the Tribes are reclaiming and managing the resources of the Flathead Reservation that were taken from them in the past.
