Enlighten a Nation

Enlighten a Nation Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Rochester, New York, dedicated to supporting Black women who are single mothers and pursuing college education. Guided by the belief that educating a woman can help educate a nation, the foundation provides scholarships and resources intended to help recipients succeed in school and in their careers. Its scholarships are $500 and may be used toward any expenses a recipient has, offering flexible support for the challenges of college and family life.

The organization grew from its founder’s experience as a single working mother navigating college, parenting, academic demands, and the need to earn a living. After receiving a scholarship herself, she committed to creating similar opportunities for other women. Alongside its scholarship program and application process, Enlighten a Nation Foundation shares resources and blog content, recognizes scholarship winners, and has hosted community activities such as a bookbag giveaway in Rochester. The foundation also invites donations to support its work and connects with the community through social media.
