Ensemble Kan is an Israeli theatre group founded in 2000 by director Shlomo Plessner and playwright Ido Bornstein. The ensemble explores theatrical and performative formats, developing a distinctive stage language through original plays, site-specific theatre and contemporary adaptations of classical texts. Its work draws on local material, bringing documentary elements together with poetic expression to reveal overlooked aspects of Israeli reality through theatre that is lively, sensory, provocative and humorous.

Alongside its performances, Ensemble Kan runs year-round workshops and creative laboratories. Its offerings include writing workshops focused on developing stories and personal projects, as well as courses in acting, acting for camera, physical theatre, writing and philosophy, and drama therapy. The company also presents varied productions, including intimate performances and work that engages directly with public spaces. “Bodystreet,” for example, combines dance and headphones in a journey through Tel Aviv’s Florentin neighborhood, accompanied by performers and a soundscape.
