Epice is an intimate fine dining restaurant at Le Quartier Français in Franschhoek, South Africa, and part of the La Colombe Restaurant Group. Its name comes from the French word épice, meaning “spice,” reflecting a menu built around layered aromas and flavours rather than heat. Head chef Charné Sampson’s cooking draws on spices and culinary influences from across the world, combined with local ingredients and Cape traditions.
The restaurant offers seasonal, multi-course menus for lunch and dinner, including vegetarian options. Dishes featured on its menus include Thai-inspired oysters or artichokes, Hong Kong prawn toast or corn tart, Cape Malay snoek or parsnip, Kerala kingklip or falafel, and lamb or celeriac thali, followed by desserts such as banana, coconut and pineapple. The Spice Journey is a dinner-only experience, while the Spring Special is available at lunch.
Guests can book online; a deposit is required to secure reservations, and the restaurant does not allow children under eight or guests to bring their own wine
