About epw-code.org
EPW is an open-source software project for studying electron-phonon physics through first-principles calculations. Its code enables researchers to model interactions between electrons and phonons and investigate related materials properties, including charge transport, superconductivity, polarons, phonon-assisted optical processes, and electron and phonon lifetimes. EPW is an independent code and is also distributed as a core module of the Quantum ESPRESSO materials simulation suite, connecting it with a broader environment for materials simulations.
The project provides online documentation and a user forum to support learning and discussion, with its code available through GitLab. Development is led and coordinated by Sabyasachi Tiwari, Samuel Poncé, Emmanouil Kioupakis, Roxana Margine, and Feliciano Giustino, alongside an international collaboration of researchers. EPW’s development and maintenance receive support from the U.
S. Department of Energy and the U. S.
National Science Foundation through awards backing work on parallelism, GPU refactoring, software interfaces, and transport, polaron, and superconductivity modules. Together, these resources and contributions make EPW a specialized research tool for exploring electron-phonon effects in materials
