Equitable Earth is a global standard for conservation and restoration projects participating in carbon markets. Independently governed, it works with Indigenous peoples, local communities, governments, and project developers worldwide. Its standard is built on digital measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) and is designed to assess impacts on climate, biodiversity, and livelihoods.
The programme evaluates projects across three pillars: ecological condition, carbon, and livelihoods. It sets eligibility requirements, monitoring protocols, and verification processes intended to support durable carbon outcomes, ecosystem resilience, and long-term benefits for local communities. Equitable Earth’s digital platform guides projects from feasibility through validation, a process the organisation says can take three to twelve months. Remote sensing and automated processes are used to estimate emissions reductions and removals, with the aim of lowering monitoring costs.
The organisation also offers programme methodologies, validation and verification resources, a project registry, documentation, and related policies and fee schedules. Its approach includes centralised carbon accounting, independent contracts with validation and verification bodies, and per-hectare fees.
