Equiano's World

Equiano's World is a profound digital humanities initiative dedicated to illuminating the history and legacy of the African Diaspora, particularly through the life of Olaudah Equiano, also known as Gustavus Vassa. This project addresses the socio-historic context of anti-Black racism and emphasizes the importance of an anti-racist model of education. A significant focus of Equiano's World is the documentation and amplification of previously marginalized voices, particularly those of the enslaved, as a means of promoting understanding and awareness of the enduring impacts of slavery.

The site offers a wealth of educational resources, including primary testimonies from the era, extensive scholarly analysis, and curated content on the Atlantic slave trade and abolition movements. By engaging the public and academia, Equiano's World fosters a deeper comprehension of the systemic roots of racism and the resilience of the African Diaspora. This initiative serves as both a rich scholarly resource and a platform for broader discussions on Black history and contemporary social justice issues.
