About Enhancing Research for Africa Network
ERFAN, or the Enhancing Research for Africa Network, is a collaborative initiative focused on advancing veterinary science and welfare across Africa. Founded in 2017 during a significant meeting in Teramo, Italy, ERFAN unites veterinary institutions from ten African nations, including Algeria, South Africa, and Tanzania, to enhance research in animal health, food safety, and sustainable livestock production.
The network promotes active partnerships with esteemed organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Organization for Animal Health, securing funding to bolster veterinary capacities across the continent. With a growing membership of 36 veterinary institutions from 20 countries, ERFAN offers diverse services including e-learning platforms, collaborative research projects, and capacity-building training programs.
As it embarks on its second phase, ERFAN continues to foster innovation and sustainable collaboration in veterinary services while adhering to the One Health approach, committed to strengthening scientific cooperation between African and Italian institutions for improved animal health and welfare.
