Erfgoed Noord Holland

Erfgoed Noord-Holland is a heritage practice led by Esther de Haan, focused on historical interiors and the culture of domestic life. It explores the stories of country estates, villas, houses and farms in the Netherlands, South Africa and Suriname, drawing on historical floor plans, maps and photographs to explain how interiors were designed, who lived in them and how people used their spaces.

The practice researches and writes about historic interiors and residential culture, and develops exhibition designs and oral history projects. It also restores the interpretation of historic spaces by furnishing or arranging them anew. Past projects include an exhibition about the residents and workers of country estates in Kennemerland, a four-century history of life at Leyduin, and a guided tour connecting paintings of country estates with the collection of the Frans Hals Museum. De Haan has also organised a reunion of former Leyduin residents linked to an oral history project. Its publications cover country estates, villas, houses and farms, bringing their interiors and histories to a wider audience.
