The Escher String Quartet is a New York-based chamber ensemble known for its musical insight and distinctive tonal beauty. Its members are violinists Adam Barnett-Hart and Bryan Lee, violist Pierre Lapointe, and cellist Brook Speltz. Since its formation in 2005, the quartet has performed at leading venues and festivals across North America, Europe, and beyond, including Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Alice Tully Hall, and the BBC Proms. It is a season artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and has received recognition including a BBC New Generation Artist designation and an Avery Fisher Career Grant.
The quartet’s recordings span works by Bartók, Janáček, Mendelssohn, Dvořák, Borodin, Tchaikovsky, Ives, Barber, and Zemlinsky, as well as contemporary music and collaborations with guitarist Jason Vieaux and percussionist Colin Currie. Releases have appeared on BIS and Naxos and earned critical acclaim. Beyond performing and recording, the ensemble supports music education through ESQYRE, its nonprofit youth residency and education organization, offering performance and instruction for people of all ages.
