The European Specialist Nurses Organisations (ESNO) represents and promotes the interests of specialist nurses across Europe. It works to strengthen recognition of specialist nursing, including through professional qualification frameworks, and to advance high standards in education and continuing professional development. ESNO brings together nurses and collaborates with healthcare professionals, member organisations, institutions and agencies in Europe and beyond.
Its work includes developing long-term strategies and policies, contributing to European Union forums and projects, and supporting cooperation across the health workforce. ESNO’s network spans clinical practice, research, education, leadership and professional standardisation in hospitals, communities and universities. The organisation also provides publications and guides, events, webinars, podcasts, congress activities and a webshop featuring materials for nurses and innovation. Its committees and focus groups address areas such as digital health, microbes, climate, patient safety and science. Additional initiatives include campaigning for specialist nurses, the Nurses Pool and a mentorship programme described as in progress. Through these activities and its member organisations, ESNO supports professional development and initiatives aimed at high-quality healthcare.
