Esoteric Chat is an online discussion forum for topics that may be understood or appreciated by a relatively small group of people. Its conversation-based format lets members start threads, reply to others, and browse discussions by activity, author, or subject. The site reports more than 137,000 posts and 9,000 conversations, reflecting a substantial archive of community contributions.

Discussion spans a wide range of subjects, including technology and forum development, music, food, religion, politics, philosophy, and internet culture. Members can also find conversations about the forum itself, participate in introductions and community discussions, and explore topics such as Minecraft, media, and current site activity. The forum provides features such as search filters, sticky threads, conversation sorting, and links to global rules, contact information, and the Esoteric Wiki.

Esoteric Chat is a user-driven community rather than a conventional publisher: posts and opinions are contributed by individual participants, and the site states that posters are responsible for their own content. Its informal, eclectic atmosphere supports open-ended discussion across niche interests.
