Essential Mobility is a family-run mobility and aging-in-place business serving San Luis Obispo County and, for selected new installations, Santa Barbara County. Led by owner James Sainsbury, the company helps people remain safely in the homes they love through locally delivered sales, installation, rentals, and repair services. It is an authorized dealer for Bruno, Harmar, and Stiltz.

Products include straight, curved, indoor, outdoor, hillside, and weather-resistant stairlifts; compact residential home elevators; and vertical platform lifts for porches, decks, and other short rises. Essential Mobility also sells mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs, with options from brands including Pride, Golden, Drive, Permobil, and Quantum. Scooter and power wheelchair rentals are available by the day, week, or month, with delivery across San Luis Obispo County.

The company repairs stairlifts, platform lifts, scooters, and power wheelchairs from most major brands, including equipment it did not install. Its services include in-home assessments, fitting, installation, maintenance, and support for aging in place, with particular experience in coastal and hillside homes.
