Estándares Pro Bono México is a national initiative dedicated to strengthening and standardizing free legal work within Mexico’s legal community. It sets out the principles and considerations that guide pro bono practice, encouraging lawyers and organizations to use their expertise to advance access to justice, the rule of law, and a fairer, more equitable society.
The initiative serves people and communities with limited resources, Indigenous communities, and others experiencing vulnerability. Its intended beneficiaries also include civil society and nonprofit organizations, groups working on matters of public interest, international organizations with social impact in Mexico, and vulnerable microentrepreneurs and social enterprises.
Estándares Pro Bono México invites legal professionals, law firms, bar associations, academics, companies, organizations, and independent practitioners to join its commitment. Its resources include guidance on pro bono standards and practice, a commitment document, a model pro bono clause for companies, legal orientation guides, webinars, and a library. The initiative also shares annual activity reports, exploratory reports on pro bono work in Mexico, surveys, and event information, and offers a newsletter for updates and invitations.
