ESWI

The European Scientific Working Group on Influenza (ESWI) is a scientific organisation focused on influenza and other respiratory viruses. It brings together scientists, public health experts, policymakers and industry representatives to share research and discuss the impact, prevention and management of respiratory infections. Its work addresses influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), COVID-19 and human metapneumovirus (hMPV), with attention to topics such as vaccination, antiviral strategies, disease burden and public health interventions.

A key activity is the ESWI Influenza Conference, which provides a forum for scientific sessions, presentations, posters and discussion. The 10th edition took place in Valencia from 20 to 23 October 2025, featuring nearly 700 participants and a Science Policy Interface track. ESWI also supports early career scientists through activities such as career panels and science communication workshops, and recognises research contributions with awards. Its communications include conference news and recaps, the Viral Times publication, podcasts and a newsletter. The next ESWI conference is scheduled to return to Valencia from 26 to 29 September 2027.
