Ethical Metalsmiths

Community for Ethical Jewelry (CEJ) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to inspire responsible jewelry practices through education, connection, and action. Its vision is a jewelry industry in which beautiful products do not come at a human or environmental cost. CEJ brings together people across the jewelry, gemstone, and metalsmithing fields, from beginners and students to experienced professionals and industry leaders.

The organization offers professional and academic learning opportunities, mentoring, exhibitions, webinars, awards, events, and research projects. Its resources help businesses develop and strengthen responsible practices, while community programs create opportunities to connect, share knowledge, and collaborate. Initiatives include a Community Talk Series, town hall meetings, a student exhibition, recorded webinars, industry events, and action-focused work such as the Better Without Mercury coalition.

CEJ also invites members to take part in efforts to improve the jewelry industry and provides membership opportunities for individuals and businesses. Through its RJM Store, the organization sells jewelry and related works by artists, including pieces made with recycled silver and reused materials.
