ETVNews is your go-to source for all things related to upland game hunting in Utah. Whether you're a seasoned hunter or trying it out for the first time, upland game hunting offers a thrilling opportunity. With a Utah hunting license, you can participate in the majority of these hunts without any additional permits.

Utah is home to a diverse range of upland game species, including doves, different types of grouse, partridge, rabbits, and hares. To ensure responsible game management, Utah has implemented the Upland Game Management Plan, which provides valuable resources such as distribution maps for hunters. The plan takes into account the current population and conditions, guiding hunting practices until 2032.

For dove hunting, areas near agricultural grain fields, sunflowers, and water sources are key hunting spots. Mourning doves tend to migrate south as temperatures drop, so starting the hunt early in the season increases your chances of success. Collared-doves, which can be hunted year-round without a license, are often found near agricultural areas.

For those looking for a unique challenge, band-tailed pigeons can be found in forested areas of southern Utah, particularly in regions with Gambel oak, aspen, and conifers. These secretive birds require some effort to locate, but they offer a rewarding hunting experience. Remember, hunting doves and band-tailed pigeons requires a Harvest Information Program (HIP) number, which is easily obtained through the DWR website.

Be sure to check the season dates and regulations for each species before heading out.
