EUFORGEN – the European Forest Genetic Resources Programme – is an international cooperation programme hosted by the European Forest Institute that promotes the conservation and sustainable use of forest genetic resources in Europe as an integral part of sustainable forest management. EUFORGEN was established in 1994 as a result of a resolution adopted in 1990 by the first Ministerial Conference of the Forest Europe process.

About EUFORGEN
EUFORGEN is an international cooperation program established in 1994 that aims to promote the conservation and sustainable use of forest genetic resources in Europe. As an integral part of sustainable forest management, EUFORGEN brings together experts from member countries to exchange knowledge and experience, analyze policies, and develop science-based strategies and tools for the better management of forest genetic resources (FGR). EUFORGEN plays a crucial role in implementing Forest Europe commitments on FGR and relevant decisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Additionally, it contributes to the European and global assessments by providing inputs and serves as a platform for developing and coordinating projects on FGR. One of EUFORGEN's unique features is its ability to facilitate dialogue among science, policy, and practice, enabling the identification of policy needs, development of strategies, and defining priorities. It also acts as a data provider, making precise assessments and monitoring progress in Europe’s forests.
