The Eugene ToolBox Project is a nonprofit organization in Eugene, Oregon that aims to empower individuals and build communities around the principles of re-use, repair, and sustainability. They achieve this by providing their members with affordable access to a wide range of building repair and garden tools. The organization relies on tool and financial donations to keep their doors open and is grateful for every contribution.
The ToolBox Project was founded in November 2013 by co-founders Anya Dobrowolski and Beth Sweeney. After a year of planning and collaborating with advisors, they launched a short-term fiscal sponsorship partnership with the Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation (NEDCO). In Fall 2014, they found a home at the Friendly Street Church of God, which generously donated space for them to establish a tool library and garden.
Since then, the organization has grown, becoming an Oregon Domestic Nonprofit in Fall 2014 and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Spring 2015. Starting with a mobile tool library, Beth and Anya set up shop every Saturday in a borrowed pickup truck and later in a large cargo van. In January 2016, a dedicated group of volunteers, along with support from local businesses and grant funding, built their permanent blue tool library and surrounding gardens.
The grand opening took place in May 2016, marking the realization of their vision. The Eugene ToolBox Project continues to expand its services, adding new tools and members each week. They have a dedicated board of directors and rely on the support of volunteers and advisory committees to maintain smooth operations.
Tool libraries have been around since the 1970s, and the Eugene ToolBox Project is proud to be a part of this movement. Other tool libraries in the United States have also made a significant impact, and the ToolBox Project invites individuals to sign up for updates to stay informed about their events and services. If you're looking to borrow tools or contribute to this meaningful cause, you can find the Eugene ToolBox Project at 2235 Adams Street in Eugene, Oregon.
They can be reached at 541-838-0125 or via email at info@eugenetoolboxproject. org. Library hours are on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Join the ToolBox Project and become a part of this thriving community focused on sustainability and empowerment!
