The European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) is an unarmed civilian monitoring mission established by the European Union in 2008. With over 200 civilian monitors from EU member states, the mission aims to stabilize the situation on the ground following the August 2008 conflict. The monitors diligently observe compliance by all sides with the EU-brokered agreements signed by Georgia and Russia.

Since its inception, the EUMM has been patrolling day and night in the areas adjacent to the South Ossetian and Abkhazian Administrative Boundary Lines. The mission's main objectives are to improve the security situation, prevent the renewal of armed conflict, and create safe and secure conditions for local residents along the Administrative Boundary Lines. The EUMM's presence contributes to the future engagement of the EU in the region through its reporting and observation activities.

With personnel from various professional backgrounds, the mission ensures a balanced and effective approach to its mandate. The EUMM's regional offices, located in Mtskheta, Gori, and Zugdidi, work on confidence-building measures, compliance monitoring, and human security aspects. The mission also plays a part in the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism, facilitating dialogue and resolving specific incidents related to the conflict.
