EURASHE, the European Association of Institutions in Higher Education, was founded to strengthen the impact of innovative, high-quality professional higher education (PHE) in Europe. Established in 1990, EURASHE initially admitted national organizations as members but later expanded its membership to include individual institutions. Today, its members consist of colleges, polytechnics, university colleges, applied sciences, and universities with their professional training programs.

The main purposes of EURASHE are to promote the interests of PHE at the national and European level, cooperate internationally on the development of PHE, and promote internationalization within its member institutions. The founders of EURASHE aimed to create an instrument to advocate for the interests of Europe's extra-university sector of tertiary education vis-à-vis the European Commission and others. EURASHE's mission is to strengthen the impact of innovative, high-quality professional higher education and related user-oriented research in Europe.

They achieve this by representing professional higher education institutions, facilitating their multi-stakeholder cooperation and dialogue, and supporting the development and transformation of European society through professional higher education. EURASHE actively works towards creating a European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and European Research Area (ERA) by influencing policy-making, promoting professional higher education, providing a platform for communication and exchange, and establishing links with other organizations with similar objectives. EURASHE engages in various activities, including membership representation, policy paper production, networking activities, conferences, and seminars, dissemination of information, partnership with stakeholder organizations, and involvement in projects.
