About EUROBATS
EUROBATS, or the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats, was established in 1994 under the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals. It is designed to protect all 55 species of bats in Europe, Northern Africa, and the Middle East through comprehensive legislation, education, and international cooperation. Currently, 39 out of 63 range states are parties to this important agreement.
The EUROBATS Secretariat, situated in Bonn, Germany, plays a crucial role in facilitating the implementation of the Agreement. It coordinates international research initiatives, organizes meetings, and promotes public awareness about the threats facing European bat populations. Notably, the Secretariat spearheads monitoring efforts to track bat population trends and develops action plans to mitigate identified risks, particularly for migratory species. Through collaboration with members and ongoing advocacy, EUROBATS strives to ensure the conservation and sustainability of bat populations, fostering a healthier ecosystem across Europe and beyond.
