EuroBirdwatch

EuroBirdwatch is an annual European birdwatching and public-awareness event led by BirdLife Partners across Europe and Central Asia. First held in 1993 alongside the wider World Birdwatch initiative, it brings communities together to observe migratory birds and learn about the habitats they depend on for breeding, migration stopovers and wintering. Participating organisations host events in multiple countries, while national observations are gathered and shared through a European reporting system.

The event offers opportunities for people of all ages, including children, to take part in guided or locally organised birdwatching activities. Participants can contribute sightings and help document the numbers of events, people and birds involved. EuroBirdwatch also publishes results, press releases, downloadable materials, event information and photographs, making its findings accessible to the public. Its website includes detailed results from past years, a history of the initiative, partner information and updates about upcoming events. In 2026, 28 partners reported data from 927 events, with 23,667 participants observing 4.8 million birds. EuroBirdwatch 2027 is scheduled for 2–3 October.
