The European Blind Union (EBU) is a European organisation representing the interests of blind and partially sighted people. Describing itself as their united voice, it brings together members from 42 countries and works to advance an accessible, inclusive society in which people with sight loss can participate fully and equally. Its vision is a Europe where blind and partially sighted people are empowered, self-determining and included in every aspect of life.
EBU promotes the rights of people with disabilities through advocacy, awareness-raising and collaboration with its member organisations. Its work draws on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which it promotes and encourages members to use. The organisation also campaigns for the full ratification and implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty, which helps people who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print-disabled access published works.
EBU provides information and resources on blindness, partial sight and low vision, and shares news, publications, position papers, podcasts and accessibility guidance.
